Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2026-03-22

This Privacy Policy explains how Meter ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use Meter (the "Service").

If you have questions, contact us at legal@meter.chat.

1. Who we are

Privacy: legal@meter.chat

2. Private by design

Meter is built to keep your usage private. We do not require your name, email address, or password. You authenticate with a passkey stored on your device, and your account is identified by a randomly generated ID. Customer Content is stored and processed on an anonymized basis — it is not linked to any personally identifiable information.

This means the information described below is collected on an anonymized basis unless you voluntarily provide identifying information (for example, by connecting a third-party service like GitHub).

3. Information we collect

3.1 Account information

When you create an account, we generate a random account identifier and store the public key associated with your passkey. We do not require your name, email, or other personal identifiers to create an account.

3.2 Customer content

We collect and process content you submit to the Service, such as prompts, messages, decision records, debate transcripts, uploaded files, generated artifacts, and integration configuration ("Customer Content"). This content is associated with your randomized account ID and is stored on an anonymized basis — it is not linked to any personal identity.

3.3 Usage and device information

We collect information about how you use the Service, including request metadata, timestamps, feature usage, and approximate location derived from IP address. We do not associate IP addresses with your account ID in long-term storage.

3.4 Integration data

If you connect third-party services (such as Google/Gmail, GitHub, calendars, or financial tools), we may access and process data from those services as authorized by you and limited to the scopes and permissions you grant. Connecting a third-party service may introduce personally identifiable information (such as a GitHub username) into your session. We store only the minimum data needed to maintain the connection.

3.5 Payment information

If you pay for the Service, our payment processors collect payment information. We receive limited billing information (such as a payment token, billing status, and invoices). We do not store full card numbers. Payment information is handled by our payment processor and is not linked to your anonymized account ID within the Service.

4. How we use information

We use information to:

- provide, maintain, and operate the Service;

- process usage-based billing and prevent fraud;

- improve the Service, including by analyzing anonymized usage patterns and Customer Content to develop features and improve model quality;

- provide customer support;

- communicate with you about updates, security, and administrative messages;

- comply with legal obligations.

Because Customer Content is anonymized, most of this processing happens without any link to your real-world identity.

5. AI model providers

The Service sends your prompts and related context to third-party AI model providers to generate Output.

What is sent. Typically your prompt, relevant conversation context, and system instructions needed for the requested workflow.

Anonymized. Content sent to providers is not accompanied by any personal identifiers. Providers receive the content itself, not information about who you are.

Provider policies. Each provider's handling of data is governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We select providers and configurations that are consistent with the Service's privacy design, but we cannot guarantee that providers will not use content in ways permitted by their own policies.

Minimization. We aim to send only the information necessary to fulfill your request.

6. How we share information

We share information with:

- Service providers (hosting, analytics, support, and payment processors) who process data on our behalf;

- AI model providers to generate responses, as described in Section 5;

- Connected services to perform actions you request (for example, committing artifacts to GitHub);

- Law enforcement or regulators when required by law;

- A successor entity in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your Customer Content with other Meter users.

7. Anonymized data and service improvement

Customer Content is stored on an anonymized basis and is not linked to any personal identity. We may use anonymized Customer Content in aggregate to improve the Service, including to analyze usage patterns, improve model routing, and develop new features. This is a core part of how the Service works and improves over time.

8. Data retention

We retain Customer Content and account data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward for operational purposes (such as auditing, security, and compliance).

You may delete your account and associated data at any time through Profile Settings in the app. Deletion is processed immediately.

9. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information. The anonymized architecture of the Service provides an additional layer of privacy — even in the event of a breach, Customer Content is not linked to personal identities. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

10. Your choices

You may:

- disconnect integrations at any time through the third-party provider's settings;

- delete your account and data through Profile Settings in the app;

- stop using the Service at any time.

Because accounts are passkey-based, some self-service account management features (such as email-based password reset) are not applicable.

11. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18.

12. International users

If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or other jurisdictions. We take steps designed to ensure appropriate safeguards when transferring data.

13. Cookies and local storage

We use cookies and similar technologies for authentication (passkey session management), security, preferences, and analytics. Cookies are not used to build a personal profile tied to your identity.

14. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice by updating the effective date and, where appropriate, by other means.
